As the flagship store, proposals for Movement LDN’s high intensity interval training facility in Elephant and Castle were born of high expectations and a dream of holistic wellbeing.
From Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre to Dickens old stomping ground, there’s no denying the rich cultural history in Southwark, London. Located at the base of Allies and Morisons Two Fifty One tower, Movement LDN’s HIIT facility will play a part in the future of the lively neighbourhood and bring a slice of luxury to the existing sweat-box style offer of training facilities in the area.
Sandwiched between the South Bank and Elephant & Castle, the double height space provided at the base of the tower hosts an incredible volume, ideal for a contemporary approach to health and fitness. Full height windows bring natural light flooding into all areas of the gym, from the light industrial styled gym floor with exposed concrete walls and ceiling, to the luxurious female change and ecologically focused reception hub.
Our design journey began by exposing the entire interior volume and conserving selected remnants to accentuate it's raw beauty. Beautifully crafted concrete soffits, hand made joinery and intricately exposed ductwork are complimented by a simple arrangement of spaces, arousing a minimal and lightly brutalist sensation. In delicate contrast to the simple white openness of the studio, the reception and changing areas are darker and more intimate spaces, guiding you through an immersive and meditative fitness experience designed to benefit the mind, body and soul.
