Located on a quiet street in the heart of Brixton, this unassuming split-level maisonette expands on entry into series of delightfully proportioned spaces, designed for entertaining and excitement. Views across the rear garden and open plan living areas interconnect to form a bright and vibrant theatre for family life.
Our brief was to deliver an additional bedroom, relocate the bathroom from the existing rear extension, better connect the garden to the home and increase natural light into the living spaces. This involved a total refurbishment and extension of a beautiful proportioned mid terrace Victorian property.
Led by our clients energetic personalities, the design incorporated a vivid mixture of colour, texture, pattern and material. Influence taken from their travels and wanderlust provided inspiration for the interior finishes throughout the home.
Nominated for an AJ Small Projects Award 2020, the ruby reds and coffee tones inspired by travels to South America populate the terracotta tiles and timber tones of the kitchen. Jade and Smokey whites from Southeast Asia form the encaustic emerald tiles of the family bathroom. Earthy tones of polished concrete and rough sawn timber of the floors contrast and compliment the thin profile floor to ceiling glazed doors and ceiling leading to the garden, that allows the sun and sky of the Mediterranean deep into the home.
With a considered use of space and light, the mid terrace home brings fun and energy to the everyday. Large open plan spaces promote social interaction and set a fabulous stage for enjoying family life in the bustling heart of South London.
