When Evstratios and Sara appointed us to redesign their home, our brief was to create an open-plan series of light filled spaces that brought the unconnected garden into the day to day life of the home. Centred around creating a contemporary child-friendly home tailored to the needs of a growing family, our response delivered a contemporary single-story wrap around extension with a full reconfiguration of the existing layout.

On ground floor, a wide timber floor hallway greets you upon entrance and leads toward an adult snug with high quality finishes and velvet interior. Further on, a brass and cast concrete finished washroom provides shower facilities on ground floor. The newly extended open plan kitchen dining and living room occupy the rear of the ground floor with thin framed sliding glass doors that sail over the edge of the roof, creating a clean line of white before relenting to the greens of the trees and blues of the sky beyond. A slice window over the dining area creates a dramatic insertion into the ceiling, lined in dimmable LED strips for an evening’s entertainment.

A bespoke timber kitchen with silstone worktops creates a focal point in the room and is the beating heart of the home. Views focus across the wide living spaces toward the garden beyond, while a secret utility room provides plenty of storage and places to store the family’s bulkier possessions.

On first floor, a series of playful bedrooms and beautifully detailed bathrooms are provided along with a new home office, while on the second floor, the master bedroom is treated to a panoramic views of the treetops from a new Juliette window within the dormer extension with a generous ensuite bathroom.

Red brick was used for the extension to create a textured juxtaposition of old and new. Large areas of glazing and open space making it feel generous and welcoming with the timber joinery and timber flooring giving the spaces a rich and warm feeling.
